President Joe Biden won't enforce a ban on the social media app TikTok that is set to take effect a day before he leaves office on Monday, a U.S. official said Thursday, leaving its fate in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump is seeking to protect TikTok from a new law that gives parent ByteDance until Sunday to sell the app to an American buyer or be banned in the U.S.

President Biden, on the eve of leaving office, is punting the issue of the U.S. government’s enforcement of the law requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent to sell its stake in the app or face a nationwide ban to President-elect Donald Trump.
