Dallas Love Field is home to new technology that’s turning wind from airplanes into renewable energy. It’s an innovative idea that came from a North Texas surgeon.

After years of testing, the airport has installed five turbines that capture jet wind exhaust and covert it to electricity. It's in partnership with the tech startup Jet Wind Corporation.

Alaska Airlines is discontinuing service at Dallas Love Field. The Seattle-based airline confirmed in a statement sent to KERA Tuesday that it plans to cease operations at Dallas’ city-owned airport on May 14.

Alaska Airlines will stop flying out of Dallas Love Field in May, giving up a presence the carrier has fought bitterly to preserve for years.

Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines operate out of Love Field, Alaska Airlines uses two spots within Love Field’s 20 gates. So with Alaska Airlines not occupying the two lanes, this will open up two spots for the other airlines. It’s unclear which airline will use the gates that will be vacated by Alaska Airlines.

Alaska Airlines will pull out of Dallas Love Field. The carrier's last flight from the Dallas area's second largest airport will be on May 14. After that, Alaska operations in the Dallas metropolitan area will be consolidated at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, the airline said in a statement.
