Lake-effect snow - triggered by a cold-air system flowing over the relatively warmer waters of Lake Michigan - sent more than 7 inches of snow piling up in Holland and some surrounding areas. The snow map issued today by the National Weather Service gives a good overview of the snow totals across the Lower Peninsula.

In Gaylord, there has been a total of 107.5 inches of snowfall so far. Last winter, Gaylord saw a total of 88.4 inches. Many communities in Northern Michigan are also on track to bury last year's totals.
