Missourians voted yes on Amendment 3, but the fight over abortion access doesn’t end there. Amendment 3 was put on the ballot by initiative petition, requiring thousands of signatures from people all over Missouri. It faced several legal challenges, such as going to the state’s Supreme Court before settling the matter.

When it goes into effect in December, Amendment 3 will protect abortion up to what’s known as fetal viability — which is about 24 weeks of pregnancy.
