The updated guidance, which was largely driven by lower-than-anticipated sales of GLP-1 blockbusters Mounjaro and Zepbound, sent Eli Lilly’s shares cratering by as much as 8% Tuesday, even as the company forecasted robust 2025 revenue.

Eli Lilly’s expectations for sales in the fourth quarter of last year missed forecasts, driven by lower-than-expected sales of its diabetes and obesity drugs.

Heading into fiscal 2025, CEO David Ricks said the company expects sales of weight-loss drugs will continue growing, and noted that it expects "to produce at least 60% more salable doses" of the drugs over the first half of this year compared to 2024.

Turning to 2025 guidance, Lilly noted that new medicines and new uses of existing medicines, expansion of production, and global expansion of sales of its diabetes and weight loss drugs should all add up to strong, 32% sales growth in the new year. The company forecasts 2025 sales of $58 billion to $61 billion.
