Mikaela Mayer became a two-division world champion on Friday, winning the WBO welterweight title with a majority decision victory over Sandy Ryan in the main event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

United States' Mikaela Mayer dethroned English boxer Sandy Ryan of her WBO welterweight title through a majority decision in New York on Saturday (8). In a fight week replete with tension, there were bizarre scenes hours before the bout as Ryan was hit with a can of red paint as she made her way to The Theater inside Madison Square Garden.

Mikaela Mayer defeated Sandy Ryan to become the WBO Welterweight Champion via a unanimous decision: 95-95, 96-94 and 97-93. The fight was dominated by the bad build-up during which Ryan was hit with paint while she left her hotel.
