Allison was most successful in NASCAR, but he also tried his luck at the Indianapolis 500, drove an IROC Porsche, guest starred in a BRE Datsun, and even did a test for CanAm with the Shadow team. He always went back to stock cars, because that's where the money and connections were, but he was quick any time he got behind the wheel.

Allison moved to fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series all-time wins list after he was given credit for a victory at Bowman Gray Stadium in 1971.
