Two historic Grade II-listed Sussex windmills have been named among the best in the UK. Windmill Hill in Hailsham and Rye Windmill were included in the list from Countryfile.

The Norfolk Broads form a national park and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where 125 miles of lock-free waterways are framed by thatched cottages, windmills and Norfolk reed beds.

Yet it’s the Broads’ picturesque villages, wind-thrashed beaches and wild marshlands studded with rare Norfolk hawker dragonflies (and the occasional artisanal deli) that continue to appeal.

Declaring a biodiversity emergency, the Broads Authority said the area of open water and rivers in Norfolk and Suffolk had been losing species at a rate of six per decade in the past 50 years.
