China and India have agreed to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and the South Asia nation, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry. The decision was made during the China-India vice-foreign minister/foreign secretary-level dialogue held on Monday in Beijing between Vice-Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and his Indian counterpart Vikram Misri.

From resumption of direct flights between both countries, to supporting China’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and allowing Indian pilgrims to visit Kailash Mansarovar, India and China have gone the whole hog to “stabilise and rebuild” ties nearly five years after the military standoff began at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in April 2020 and led to the bloody Galwan Valley clash in June that year.

In October 2024, New Delhi and Beijing declared an agreement aimed at disengaging from contentious issues and committing to efforts to restore their relationship.
