Excavator crews are clawing heavy debris left over from Hurricane Helene out of Douglas Lake in a race for the summer season.

Clean up efforts continue on Douglas Lake, nearly five months after Hurricane Helene hit East Tennessee. The Tennessee Valley Authority told 6 News crews have logged nearly 70,000 miles on the clean up project.

Neighbors and businesses in Jefferson County are still recovering months after Helene ripped through parts of East Tennessee.
