EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Drew Doughty was having tests Thursday to determine the severity of a lower-body injury sustained Wednesday, and the Los Angeles Kings were preparing for the possibility of the two-time Stanley Cup-winning defenseman being out for an extended period.

Doughty was in a protective boot and using a knee scooter to get around the team’s El Segundo practice facility on Thursday amid a report that he suffered a broken left ankle.

Doughty hurt his left leg Wednesday when he slammed into the boards while engaged with Golden Knights forward Tanner Pearson in the first period of a 3-2 win.

: NHL insider Frank Seravalli is now reporting that Doughty has a fractured ankle as a result of last night’s collision. Officially, Doughty’s status is long-term with a more defined timetable to come once doctors make a determination.
