Millions are being urged to prepare for disastrous conditions following a series of weather warnings. This comes after new maps revealed the areas expected to be hit by snow and ice today in the wake of Storm Eowyn.

Another bout of extreme weather is set to bring even more disruption to the UK - just hours after Storm Éowyn wreaked havoc and was dubbed the 'worst storm since 1998'

The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings for wind today (January 26), as Storm Herminia, named by the Spanish meteorological office, batters the UK.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “The strongest gusts are likely to be felt across parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, north-western Wales and western Scotland, where exposed sites could get gusts in excess of 80mph, which has the potential to cause impacts for those in these areas.

But as Storm Éowyn starts to sweep in from the west in the early hours of Friday, parts of Northern Ireland will see snowfall, especially Londonderry and Omagh. By 3am, the snow will reach parts of central and southern Scotland, moving north east through the country as the weather front continues to move.

From Saturday, Storm Éowyn is predicted to weaken as it moves northeast of the UK. Despite this, Saturday will still be breezy for much of the country, with strong winds persisting in the north, but it will be drier for many.

More high winds and heavy rain are expected on Sunday as a new storm approaches the UK. The warning came as a 19-year-old man was confirmed to have died after he was hit by a tree while driving in East Ayrshire on Friday during Storm Éowyn.
