The comments come after now former Superintendent Marie Feagins filed a lawsuit against the entire board, alleging violations of open meetings laws.

All nine MSCS school board members are listed in the lawsuit and accused of violating the Open Meetings Act, which gives the public rights to attend and observe public meetings.

The recently-ousted leader of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) has sued the school board, alleging private discussions and deliberations months ahead of the decision to terminate her four-year contract early.

Feagins filed the order of protection which prompted a call from Memphis City Councilman JB Smiley Jr., a member of the then- superintendent's transition team, where Smiley allegedly said his "funders" want to "get rid of (Feagins)," according to court documents.
