Netflix’s new historical drama “American Primeval” is currently the No. 1 series on the site. But how much of the show and its characters are based on the 1857 Utah War?

Netflix's epic period Western miniseries American Primeval could be making a big mistake if it decides to move forward with a potential second season.

Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin led the gritty miniseries about a family's trek across the American West in 1857.

Right now there's been no word on a second series of the show. American Primeval is listed as a "limited series" which would indicate it could only get a one season run. However, the series director and executive producer Peter Berg has revealed he is keen for the show to return, on one condition.

Looking back to the early days of serialized television, it seems like every other show had a western theme to it as Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Lone Ranger were some of the most popular titles around.

Westerns – thanks to shows like Yellowstone – have come back in a huge way. And what’s more: American Primeval tackles a fascinating subject, which is America’s only indigenous religion: Mormonism and it’s (literal) war for legitimacy.
