U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Friday that Mexico has proposed matching U.S. tariffs on China in a move that he described as "very interesting" and one that Canada should match.

President Donald Trump said Thursday tariffs of 25% on Mexican and Canadian goods are set to take effect on March 4, while also threatening to impose an additional 10% on Chinese imports on the same date.

The U.S. economy has never been more integrated with Canada and Mexico. The 25% tariffs that President Trump has said he would impose on America’s two largest trading partners on Tuesday could upend those relationships—and no sector is as exposed as the automotive industry.
