Amendment 4 failed in Florida after not meeting the 60% threshold to pass, according to the Associated Press. Florida voters decided to keep the current abortion law which restricts abortion to the first six weeks of pregnancy.

In Florida, constitutional amendments need at least 60% of the vote to be adopted. Amendment 3, which would have allowed people 21 and older to use marijuana without any medical reason, got about 56% of the vote.

While the proposal received 57% of the vote, it wasn't enough to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and keeps Florida's six-week law in place.

Florida voters Tuesday rejected an amendment to the State Constitution that would have guaranteed the right to an abortion, according to NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ. Amendment 4 was added to the ballot via a citizen ballot initiative,

South Dakotans voted to support the amendment while 61% voted in opposition, according to the Secretary of State's website.

Florida is the first state since the overturn of Roe v. Wade where abortion opponents prevailed on a ballot measure.

With voters declining to enshrine a right to abortion in the State Constitution, South Dakota will continue to have one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.
