In a fight week replete with tension, there were bizarre scenes hours before the bout as Ryan was hit with a can of red paint as she made her way to The Theater inside Madison Square Garden.

Mikaela Mayer defeated Sandy Ryan to become the WBO Welterweight Champion via a unanimous decision: 95-95, 96-94 and 97-93. The fight was dominated by the bad build-up during which Ryan was hit with paint while she left her hotel.
