A man was shot and killed in Northeast Thursday afternoon, marking the city's first homicide investigation of the new year.

A homeless man was found dead Wednesday near the Cumberland riverbank in what Nashville police believe is the first homicide of 2025. Two men, also experiencing homelessness, reported the man's body to a Nashville Downtown Partnership ambassador, Metro Nashville Police said in a statement Thursday morning.

Police charged Ray Hacker, 31, of York, in connection with the May crash near the Fishing Creek exit that killed a motorcyclist on his 21st birthday.
