By Neil Jerome Morales and Mikhail Flores MANILA (Reuters) -Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr directed authorities on Friday to stock up on food and other supplies in advance as Typhoon Man-yi threatened to hit the capital region.

Typhoon Usagi weakened over the Philippines on Thursday afternoon but was still expected to bring damaging winds to parts of Taiwan early Friday morning.

Usagi was a typhoon in the South China Sea Friday morning Philippine Time, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said in its latest advisory. The typhoon had sustained wind speeds of 81 miles per hour, which would make it a Category 1 hurricane if it were in the Atlantic Ocean.
