South Carolina was the most popular state for one-way movers in 2024, breaking Texas' three-year winning streak, according to U-Haul's annual Growth Index.

Despite several years of more people moving to Colorado than from Colorado, according to U-Haul, the Centennial State dropped 31 places in the ranking of states with the most growth in the U.S. in 2024.

U-Haul customers moving to South Carolina accounted for 51.7% of all one-way traffic in and out of the state (48.3% departures) last year.

According to U-Haul, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee were the other top states for growth. Other bottom states for growth are Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. For more information, go to uhaul.com.

Colorado plummeted 31 spots last year in a growth ranking based on U-Haul equipment rentals. The Centennial State ranked 40th in 2024, down from 9th in 2023, according to the most recent U-Haul Growth Index released on Friday.

North Carolina has claimed the third spot in U-Haul’s ranking of top growth states for 2024. According to the report, southern states are seeing the most growth. Besides North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee round out the top five growth states.
