Jul 16, 2022 · As a Donkey Kong Country game, I rate Tropical Freeze as a failure because if a game is trying to be a sequel in an ongoing series, you should assume certain baseline mechanics to be true. In my opinion, the roll->dash->run mechanic is something that should stay true to any game in the series.

I've just tried playing Donkey Kong Country Returns recently, and mostly thinking about how it wasn't as fun as I remember it to be. The fun levels are too short and the longer ones drag on. Tropical Freeze looks like it solves both of these problems, plus more kongs. Thinking of buying a switch just to play TF when it comes out in May.

Apr 28, 2020 · Donkey Kong country returns 3d was my first 2D DK game so I really enjoyed it. Then I played tropical freeze on Wii U and to be honest I have no preference and while playing DK TF I find myself trying to use then blowing mechanics. So if I had to choose from one I would stick to the 3ds game.

Jun 25, 2021 · I don't know. No offense to anyone who loves Tropical Freeze but I still prefer the old DK Country games (SNES) over TP Freeze. I love platformers to death and tried to like DK Tropical Freeze but 20+ levels in I still don't get the same vibe and joy as with other games from the same genre.

Dec 30, 2021 · Tropical Freeze feels more like an evolution of the Country series as it maybe would have gone on, where there are way more Kongs, more different settings (a tradition from the original sequels to DKC1), the triumphant return of David Wise, underwater levels, a slightly more somber tone (at least in the final world), the list goes on.

Tropical freeze is so good , it might be among my favourite platformers, if not my favourite. There is the others donkey Kong country you can try, Donkey kong country returns is the prequel to TF so this will be the closest there is, though there is a difference in the gameplay iirc.
