The C64 can be bought with a working PSU for the same as the actual C64 Maxi, maybe a bit more. But you also need some kind of storage medium. A SD2IEC card reader or a Ultimate-II+ cart to emulate a 1541 or 1530.

Aug 12, 2022 · The Maxi has more usb ports too. If you plan to tinker with the C64 environment or load back up games the maxi is much better. There was some software differences when loading backup disks but a firmware update may have added those features to the mini by now. I have never used my mini after getting the maxi.

Mar 29, 2023 · Keep in mind that their Vic20 model still runs C64 games too, so maybe see if you can find that one cheaper. Even at $200, it's still probably cheaper than what you'd pay for a working real C64 with a good power supply and a way to load programs from USB/SD.
