There's also "net lights" that might be simpler to add en masse. Despite being alarmingly cheap, ours have been outside for their third year (all year) are are still going strong.

Nov 16, 2023 · Check the label or instructions that came with the lights (or web-search to find the instructions), to see if they have a maximum wattage allowed. Your present load of 24 x 1 watt bulbs is 24 watts. The new load of 2 watt bulbs would be 2 x 24 = 48 watts.

I would like the convenience of being able to switch the light string on/off from the wall switch inside the patio door (currently wired to the CFL fixture), rather than reaching behind the patio furniture to get at the outlet.

That is the limiting factor to how many strings of this same type you can connect nose to tail. Typically the package box will tell you the limit. You don't need to connect them all nose to tail.

When the rope lights are switched off, they continue to glow very dimmly - visible only after dark.

I have an outdoor LED light chain, which consists of two parts. This morning when I got up the second part of the LED chain had begun glowing very faintly (see image). The first part of the chain (which is nearest to the plug) is fine. None of the bulbs are dead (as far as I can tell) I checked the plug connecting the two parts and it looks dry.
