The most significant and damaging events of the storm unfolded late on April 29, when two large, long-tracked, and powerful wedge tornadoes struck areas near Canton, Texas, the strongest being an EF4. Together, the two tornadoes caused four deaths and many injuries.

The most powerful tornado touched down near the City of Canton and was estimated to have a path 1 mile wide and wreaked a 55 mile path of destruction, damaging numerous structures. As a result, at 7:30 p.m. TX-TF1 was put on alert by TDEM, and at 11:00 p.m., a Type-I US&R Task Force was activated to assist in Van Zandt and Rains Counties.
