November 2009edited November 2009 in Troubleshooting. I recently purchased a PSW505 sub from Newegg to replace my 10 year old Infinity BU-120 12" 100w amp sub. Now I know the infinity sub has horrible reviews on the web, but it had a bit of punch to it and I have had no problems with it except for the woofer cracking at higher volumes.

It will be a slight bit of a pain when I want to listen to the Carver setup (music only) as I have to switch the leads back to the Carver amp from the lowly JVC AV receiver at the Paradigm sub. Not a too bad a deal though. For the money I spent on the RM6005's and the JVC receiver I think this came out all right. Not great but alright.

The speakers are nothing special and the JVC receiver is a very "early" 5 channel surround, with decent power for two channel sound but not worth much on today's market! The Technics that get some respect around here are the Turntables, and some of the 70s silver face units (but NOT all!).

I know an 89SPL reading ( Polk speakers) means 1watt of power is delivered to the speakers at a distance of 1meter, and there is a loss of 3db per meter, if you want to measure SPL to your listening position. I thought maybe a setting of 0db (receiver) would normally equate to 1watt of power producing 89SPL at a distance of 1 meter.

Not really a two channel receiver kind of guy, but the best I've owned to date to listen to is probably a rather nicely rehabbed (and cosmetically decent, if not quite Mad Men quality) Fisher 500C.
