My current 2015 16GB Macbook Pro had occasionally started showing me “Out of Application Memory” pop up warning after 9 years of use. Still, Memory Pressure graph on the current macbook is almost always green. For the new macbook purchase, I need to decide between 16GB vs 24GB RAM based on the above use case.

16GB is just barely ok for serious software development
Jun 21, 2022 · I actually ran 8GB for a similar setup to this when I only had an M1 Macbook Air. It was quite miserable. I thought 16GB would be enough but it's just barely ok. I always have to think about closing apps to free up more memory. Configuring a custom Macbook with 32GB of RAM could delay shipping by weeks/months.

It’s really up to you. The air will have way more than enough power to handle what you need. However, it’s insulting that Apple still has 8GB of ram in their base models that still cost a premium over any 16GB ram PC, then have the audacity to upsell an additional 8GB at an even more astronomical amount compared to high end DDR5 ram.

In my opinion go with the M2 chip or even M1 would do but go with the 16GB as Apple doesn’t allow to upgrade the RAM later on. And you never know when you workflow will get changed or when you will get inspired to create shorts or reels. So if you are planing to use the laptop for several years then I would recommend to get 16GB.
