Moly is a dry lubricant which bonds to the metal surfaces, offering lubrication properties even when the parts have squeezed everything liquid out. A lot of greases now say "Moly" on the container, but you must be careful about this.

Do not use regular grease, you must use Molybdenum disulfide grease (paste) which is available at most MC shops and most Auto supplies. Areal light coat on the rear axle shaft is also helpful. 1998 VT1100C2 Shadow ACE. 2007 HD Road King.

Some use Belray waterproof grease meant for boat trailers wheel bearings on those. Others mix dry moly powder with lard. Think about replacing the 0-rings. Not the oil seals, the O-rings.

Most other pastes brag about having moly, but the moly amount is like 5-15%. Honda's paste has like 50-70% moly in it. The paste is expensive because of that, and because Honda doesnt manufacture it anymore AFAIK.

Oct 2, 2012 · Moly 60 should be available at any Honda moto or car dealer. If you use anything less than the 40% moly content, you risk spline failure. Standard moly grease is not even 40% content. This is so critical that knowledgeable BMW mechanics use Honda Moly 60 on BMWs, which are much more prone to rear wheel spline failures than shaft drive Honda motos.
